About Monstrous Productions Theatre Company

What is Monstrous Productions Theatre Company?

Monstrous Productions is a Cardiff-based Theatre Company that specialises in the performance of adaptations of novels by Sir Terry Pratchett, the proceeds of which are donated to Alzheimer’s and dementia-related charities and support organisations in Wales. We aim to put on two productions per year and all our members are volunteers. We are entirely funded through sponsorships and investors.

Between 2012 and 2016 we donated over £21,000 to Alzheimer’s Resarch UK.

But why ‘Monstrous Productions’?

Our co-founders, Amy Davies and Siân Llewellyn, met through Act One, Cardiff University’s Drama Society. Amy was director of a production of Monstrous Regiment and Siân joined the production team, initially as sound and Pyrotechnics Technician, then later as Production Manager. Amy was asked by a number of Pratchett fans to continue putting on Discworld shows and, with a bit of a push from the Monstrous cast, Monstrous Productions Theatre Company was born!

So how does it work?

We announce auditions for upcoming productions about a month before casting. We have a laid back audition process and people travel from all over the South Wales area. No experience is necessary, our only stipulation is that members must be over 18 and younger than 70. Membership is £10 per year. We rehearse twice a week over the course of a few months, with some social activities thrown in. The profit raised from each show is donated to Alzheimer’s and dementia-related charities and support organisations in Wales.
